Antique C.W.S Biscuit Sample Tin – Vintage Metal Advertising Tin with Cottage Design

A charming survivor of Britain’s rich grocery heritage, this original C.W.S biscuit sample tin offers a glimpse into the golden age of food merchandising and cooperative trade. Produced for the Co-operative Wholesale Society (C.W.S.), these tins were once used by travelling salesmen and shopkeepers to present biscuit varieties to customers and retailers a practical piece of advertising ephemera from a time when packaging was as much about beauty as it was about function.

Crafted from lithographed metal, this vintage sample tin features a wonderfully nostalgic pastoral cottage scene set against a rich red ground, capturing the romantic decorative style so popular in the early 20th century. The aged patina, surface wear, and timeworn finish only add to its authentic character, telling the story of years spent in commerce before becoming a sought-after collector’s piece.

Originally designed as a biscuit salesman’s sample tin, it would have held sample selections or acted as a promotional display piece, making it a fascinating item of British retail history. Today, it makes a beautiful decorative object for a farmhouse kitchen, pantry display, or vintage advertising collection.

Perfect for collectors of antique tins, vintage advertising memorabilia, C.W.S collectibles, biscuit tins, and kitchenalia, this piece combines practical history with decorative appeal.
